Education Cents Surpasses 13,000 Users

In September of 2008, CollegeInvest, a not-for-profit division of the Colorado Department of Higher Education, approached DATA, Inc. to develop a web-based education platform to address the needs of financial literacy among first-generation college students in the State of Colorado. In September of 2009, Education Cents was launched (See our showcase here).

Finances are one of the most common barriers to enrolling and remaining in higher education – especially with students who are members of the first generation in their family to attempt attending college. Education Cents is a program designed to offer a three-pronged approach to solving this problem by offering an interactive web site with accompanying presentations and printed materials to help Colorado students and their families better understand financial matters.

With the suite of tools that Education Cents offers for addressing broad personal finance topics such as managing a budget, credit and debt, income and spending, saving and investments, and college financing, CollegeInvest is helping to reduce the financial hurdles keeping Colorado Students from getting into – and staying in – college.

We are now proud to announce that Education Cents has surpassed 13,000 registered users, and is continuing to grow into a staple of financial literacy education both in Colorado classrooms and in Colorado homes. CollegeInvest continues to work with DATA, Inc. to enhance the variety and sophistication of the tools available in Education Cents, and has renewed their budget for ongoing development in the 2011-2012 fiscal year.

We are proud to be part of this extremely worthy endeavor!
